The Beast from the East

Possibly the largest drive-shaft we have ever made was for the fire breathing ,nitro-fueled, 1000+bhp monster “the Beast from the East”. Hawk Racing sent us a broken shaft as a sample so that we could produce a replacement driveshaft for this incredible machine.

Manufacturing a shaft that propels ‘The Beast” from 0- 230mph in less than 5 seconds requires an incredibly strong shaft. Using the sample supplied we created a CAD file before starting any machining.

The 93mm diameter, 850mm long shaft was manufactured from S155, splined in three sections, gun-drilled, splined and then surface ground to suit bearing for a flange and the flywheel.
