1933 Tt6 Riley Grebe – During testing we got to 6,800 rpm & 135 BHP at the wheels in December, but I felt there is more to come so we currently have the engine in tiny bits.
When I first purchased it the Riley, the challenge was to get it running well as it was down on power and very “tired“, soon after it failed. After being fully rebuilt twice we got to 135 BHP 121 Lbs/ft of torque at the rear wheels – then the clutch and flywheel exploded. So we rebuilt again – then the gearbox exploded !
Once all that was done it started shearing halfshafts, in fact both breaking at Cadwell in 2024 – time for stronger shafts – so time for a call to Brian at Brand Engineering…two new shafts….they are fabulous- absolutely perfectly machined – I QC’d them, bearing in mind that I have fitted around 100 half shafts in my time – and these are the best I have ever checked.
I can tell just looking at them, these new shafts are not going to fail!
A bit of history….technically it’s a 1933 Riley Tt6 “ Grebe” – Riley built six of them for competition- three others survive all in heavily modified states – Freddie Dixon & Riley campaigned them in 1933 /4 – then they were developed to become the basis for ERA’s with Raymond Mays at the helm.
