SBR CHRONO V8 – Gun-Drilled Drive Shafts

This crazy looking thing is called SBR Chrono V8, is originally based on the Audi R8, its powered by the Twin-Turbo 4.2L V8 BCY Engine producing over 750Hp, and weighing in at only 940Kg.

After breaking a shaft at the Doune round of the British Hill Climb Championship, Simon needed a replacement set of shafts for his incredible Chrono V8 with the next round being just two weeks later…not enough time to get the shafts machined, splined, heat treated and straightened as well as gun-drilled. So we made two sets one so that he could compete at Harwood round and then the second for a gun-drilled set which where supplied a week later.

The SBR Chrono V8 is a radically custom, open-class hillclimb and sprint race car built by British driver Simon Bainbridge (SB Racing). While it vaguely resembles the silhouette of an Audi R8, it is a tube-frame, purpose-built track monster with extreme aerodynamic modifications.

Powered by a mid-mounted 4.2L twin-turbo Cosworth BCY engine, it produces an astonishing 750 hp. Thanks to a carbon-fiber tub and lightweight custom bodywork, the car weighs just 940 kg, giving it a power-to-weight ratio that rivals top-tier prototypes. It competes in the Sports Libre class in events like the British Hillclimb Championship
